Biography
| BENJAMIN D JOHNS – DIRECTOR / SCREENWRITER Benjamin is devoted to telling strong powerful stories often of the unheard voices both from the real world and fiction. In 2003 Benjamin was nominated for a BAFTA Film Award for CANDY BAR KID. It screened at more than 150 festivals, including Edinburgh, Toronto, Venice and Tokyo. After making award-winning short films with Robert Hardy and Hugh Bonneville, Benjamin’s Directorial debut feature Film “TRAVELLER”, was successfully released in the UK by Metrodome in 2014 in Cinemas, DVD (reaching the top 10 in Tesco, Morrisons and HMV) and all VOD platforms. It also secured a major summer 2015 nationwide release via Revolver Entertainment in the USA. Benjamin has recently directed feature Documentary “THE MEDICINE BUDDHA” narrated by Sir Ben Kingsley the film depicts the life of the Spiritual leader in Mongolia. The film won the highest film award – Mongolian Academy Award for Best Documentary 2018. It has been released via Samuel Goldwyn in UK, USA and Canada late 2019. Benjamin has directed a feature documentary “UNCLE MAX” about the life of a revered Aboriginal Elder – Uncle Max Harrison of the Yuin Nation NSW Australia, which is scheduled for a late 2020 release. JUMP will be Benjamin’s next feature film with an exciting young talented cast and leading Sales and Finance company GFM Films backing the film will be shot on the Canary Islands in October 2020. In EARLY 2021 Benjamin will embark on his feature documentary VIVA LA MUSICA CUBANA making a film about five Grammy winning Jazz Musicians with ARTE and AMC Networks already on board. THE MUD HUT a heartfelt feature film is scheduled for June 2021. Having developed the film carefully over 3 years he is pulling together a stellar cast with, CYNTHIA ERIVO STANLEY TUCCI, ALISON STEADMAN, ROGER ALUM and MEERA SAYAL already signed. A leading team of inspiring HOD’s will be along side him to realize this carefully chosen beautiful and important story. Benjamin is writing the Bio Pic of Willard Wigan MBE the worlds greatest micro sculptor and several series for Netflix and Amazon. Benjamin has served on the board of the NPA, is an active nominee voting member of BAFTA and BECTU. |
